Michael D. Foster

Michael D. Foster, 56, of Monroe died on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Third Reformed Church in Pella with burial to follow at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, May 29, at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Michael D. Foster Memorial Fund or the Monroe Presbyterian Church.

The son of Glen Alexander and Dorothy June (Swigart) Foster, Mike was born on Feb. 20, 1956, in Des Moines. On July 26, 1974, he was united in marriage to his best friend Elsie Moore in Monroe. Mike worked at Vermeer Mfg in Pella, Iowa for 38 years with various positions. Most recently Mike was an Environmental Quality Manager at Vermeers. Mike was also a self employed Hypnotist for the last 15 years. Mike graduated from Kenedy Western University, Des Moines Area Community College, American College of Hypnosis. He was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian church. Some of Mike’s past involvements include: President of the Iowa Guild of Hypnotist, member of the National Hypnosis Society, President of the Friends of Elk Rock horse group. Long time member of the Jasper County Fairboard, Fairboard President, Jasper County Fair horse superintendant, Iowa State Fair Ringmaster, Iowa Horse Commission, American Quarter Horse Association, Longtime member of the Iowa Horse Council, District President of Iowa Association of Fairs. Mike enjoyed most of all his grandchildren, his family, horses, camping, traveling, playing guitar, restoring his 51 GMC truck, hunting, fishing and time on the farm.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Elsie of Monroe; children, Diana Lynn (Jon) DeGreef of Newton, Michael Dustin (Jasmin) Foster of Baxter, and twins Joseph William and Justice Carolyn Marie Foster both of Monroe; five grandchildren, Kaurissa Lauren Andrew, Ashley Loren Andrew, Trai Jordan Andrew “ Trai Man”, Roman Alexander Foster, and Temperance Alexandria Foster. Also surviving are his mother, Dorothy of Colfax, and his siblings, Richard Foster of Oklahoma, Dianna (Jim) White of Galesburg, Brenda (Steve) Long of Colfax, Steve (Rhonda) Foster of Newton, Glen Allen (Katreena) Foster of Colfax, John (Teresa) Foster of Colfax and Tammy Foster of Waukee. Mike was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
