PCM boys dominate Mustang Classic

The Prairie City-Monroe boys golf team took homefield advantage to a whole new level on Monday.

All six of the Mustangs’ varsity competitors placed in the top 10 in the field of 54 golfers and PCM cruised to the team title with a 305, beating out second-place Bondurant-Farrar by 28 strokes. PCM junior Hunter Van Veen took home medalist honors with a 72.

“We really took advantage of our home course knowledge today. The kids, for the most part, stayed out of trouble and found a way to get the ball in the hole,” PCM coach Mike Smith said. “I was very excited to have all six golfers finish in the top 10 out of 54 golfers. It just goes to show you how balanced of a team we are. I always mark this event down as a must-win and the boys came through big. I’m very proud of them.”
