Volunteers clean up Des Moines homeless camps
DES MOINES (AP) — Volunteers from across Iowa have converged on Des Moines to clean up the city’s homeless camps.
Rick Hill, 49, of Fort Dodge, was among the dozens of people to take part in the trash pickup. He told the Des Moines Register that the work was tough but he felt compelled to give back. He lived on the streets for six months and has been at a Fort Dodge homeless shelter for the past year.
“It’s hard because I’ve been there,” Hill said.
