Nellie M. Osborn

Nellie M. (Reed) Osborn, 75, of Newton, formerly of Albia, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Skiff Hospice Monarch Wing in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, conducted by Pastor David Rex of the Metz Church in rural Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the funeral home.

Memorials to Alzheimer’s Research Center, or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, or the Bar None Cowboy Church may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home. Please add, Attn: Osborn Family on your envelope.

Nellie was born April 1, 1937, in Albia, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert B. and Signe Marie Carlson Reed. Signe died while Nellie was a young girl, and her mother who then raised her was Elsie E. Carlson. She grew up in Albia and was a graduate of Albia High School in 1954.

On March 27, 1957, Nellie was united in marriage with Ramon L. Osborn in Albia. She worked from 1954-1957, for the Vernon Company in Newton. She began working as an Avon Representative in 1967 and worked for 30+ years. Nellie was a member of the UAW 997 Auxiliary, Izaak Walton League Ikettes, Avon President’s Club, and the Spring Chicks Bowling League. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, she also enjoyed spending time with her family at Lake Ponderosa. She enjoyed dancing, Bluegrass music, bowling with the Spring Chicks, camping, fishing, and going on trips with Osborn Tours.

Nellie is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Rick) Puls of Malcom; her son, Steve L. (Dana) Osborn of Newton; three grandchildren, Tanner Puls of Malcom, Heather Osborn and Spencer Osborn, both of Newton; her five brothers, David Reed, Ray (Pat) Reed, Ron (Sharon) Reed, Terry (Carol) Reed, all of Albia, and Randy (Penny) Reed of Ottumwa; her sister-in-law, Joan Reed of Albia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ramon in July of 2011; and brother, Bob Reed.
