Jasper County Honor Band performs tonight

Newton Community Schools will be hosting the 38th annual Jasper County Honor Band tonight in the Newton Senior High School Center for Performance.

Approximately 110 Jasper County middle school instrumental musicians will culminate their talents with a final concert beginning at 7 p.m. This year’s middle school honor band guest director will be Dan Stecker.

Stecker received his bachelor of arts degree in music education from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. He is a graduate of Harmony High School in Farmington and has taught instrumental music for Roosevelt High School and Merrill Middle School in Des Moines the past six years. He also has taught for Southeast Polk, Indianola and Carlisle schools. Stecker currently is the director of bands at NHS.
