• Kirstee E. Gildersleeve, 19, of Nevada was arrested and charged with fifth-degree theft at 6:33 p.m. Sunday at Walmart. According to a police report, witnesses saw Gildersleeve attempt to leave the retailer with $23.38 worth of merchandise. Police interviewed the subject and the authorities said they confirmed the store employees’ accounts. Gildersleeve was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Dorthy L. Graham, 21, of Des Moines was arrested at 1:04 p.m. Feb. 15, on a warrant for a probation violation. According to a police report, officers went to the Jasper County Courthouse to locate Graham, but she had left the property. Authorities found the subject at 208 E. Fourth St. S. standing in a yard. Police said she violated her probation for a public intoxication conviction. She was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
• Douglas L. Krier, 54, of Newton was arrested and charged with simple domestic assault at 1:36 p.m. Friday after a verbal argument with his adult daughter became physical. According to a police report, Krier was located at 732 First Ave. E. where he told police his 34-year-old daughter became angry with him and “got in his face.” Police said that an investigation revealed that Krier pushed his daughter back multiple times during the confrontation resulting in a scratch on her hand. The victim told authorities that the verbal arrangement began as a result of what she felt was her father’s inappropriate behavior around her children. Krier was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Sharry Roush, 45, of Newton was arrested and charged with domestic assault at 6:06 p.m. Saturday after a witness said she struck her boyfriend during an argument. According to a police report, the fight between Roush and the 40-year-old male victim happened at 1209 W. 16th St. S., apt. 108. Authorities said that an investigation revealed that Roush was the primary aggressor, and she was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Ryan M. Tool, 17, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended at 10:18 p.m. Sunday after an officer stopped his vehicle for speeding. According to a police report, Tool was pulled over in the 1400 block of Highway 14 North. His passenger, 15-year-old Timber J. Hogan of Newton, also was cited during the traffic stop for possession of tobacco underage. Tool was released to appear in court.
• Travis W. White, 37, of Newton was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (second offense) at 12:04 p.m. Feb. 11 after an officer stopped his vehicle for speeding. According to a police report, White was pulled over in the 600 block of South Second Avenue West. Police said that the subject had an odor of alcohol on his breath and failed sobriety testing during the traffic stop. White registered a blood alcohol content of over .08 on a field breathalyzer, but authorities did not indicate if a more accurate chemical test was performed. White also was cited for driving without insurance during the incident and was released to appear in court.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
