Dale Meyer Van Drimmelen of Ashland, Mo., formerly of Des Moines, passed away Feb. 16, 2012, at Ashland Healthcare in Ashland, Mo.

Dale was born April 25, 1923, in New Sharon, Iowa, to Corstian and Florence Meyer Van Drimmelen. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in Oskaloosa, Iowa, in 1942. He married Colleen J. Anderson on Aug. 20, 1943, in the parsonage of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. Dale was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from 1943 to1946 in the Pacific. He was a farmer in Mahaska County and later became a truck driver for Meadow Gold Dairy and Prairie Farms. He retired in 1985 and began working for the YMCA in Newton, Iowa, where he retired a second time in 2001.

Dale was an avid bowler and enjoyed working in the garden and loved growing exceptional roses. He was preceded in death by his wife Colleen of 68 years. Survivors include a daughter, Dea Howard of Altoona, Iowa; a son, Steve (Rebecca) of Hartsburg, Mo.; a foster daughter, Jennifer Endsley Nesler of Champaign, Ill.: three granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 10 a.m. to noon today, Feb. 20, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 Fourth St. SW in Altoona, followed by a brief graveside ceremony at noon at the Altoona Cemetery.
