Following an all-state football season for Lynnville-Sully, Hawks senior Kyle Terlouw committed to Iowa Central Community College on Thursday, signing a letter of intent to play for the Tritons.

Iowa Central — located in Fort Dodge — is a two-year school at the Division I level that competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association out of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

Terlouw’s play on both the offensive and defensive line for Lynnville-Sully was a key reason why the Hawks went from 3-6 in 2010 to 8-3 this past season and earned a trip to the second round of the Class A State Playoffs — where they lost to eventual state champion Lisbon. While a team’s top tackler is usually a linebacker, Terlouw achieved that feat from his spot on the defensive line — recording 92 total tackles. Fifty-six of them were solo, and 10 were behind the line of scrimmage.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 260-pounds this past season, Terlouw added one sack and led the team with four fumble recoveries. He also was named first-team all-state by the Des Moines Register, received first-team all-district honors for a second-straight season, and was named Class A District 6 Defensive Most Valuable Player.

His play on the offensive line also helped Lynnville-Sully rush for 2,662 yards this season and 5.7 yards per carry.

Iowa Central went 6-4 this past season and finished ranked 20th in the NJCAA, finishing the 2011 campaign with a bowl game win at the UNI Dome.
