Local residents still have until the end of the work day on Monday to provide input in the “Newton’s Future” planning process by completing a community-wide survey.

A few weeks ago, a four-page Community Attitude Survey insert was placed within the Jasper County Advertiser. Newton residents are encouraged to complete the form and return to any city office, the library or in dropboxes located at local grocery stores, banks and the credit union. Copies of the survey are available at any of those locations. Another convenient way to provide input is to complete the online version of the survey, located at www.newtonsfuture.com.

The City of Newton is under way with a planning process to create a new comprehensive plan that will serve as the guide for Newton’s future. The city is seeking the ideas and opinions of residents to guide the next decade and beyond. All people in the Newton area are encouraged to provide their input.

A comprehensive plan covers topics such as economic development, housing, land use, education, natural resources and much more. It is a city’s official document that sets the path for decisions, strategies and growth to move a community forward.

Citizens may continue to follow the planning process at the project website at www.newtonsfuture.com and are invited to like “Newton’s Future: A Comprehensive Planning Process” on Facebook for updates and notifications. For more information, contact the development planner, Erin Chambers, at (641) 792-6622 ext. 25.
