Central’s Wood, Larson land league track honors
PELLA (CC) — Central College’s Kyle Wood, a 2008 Newton Senior High School graduate, and freshman Eric Larson are the Iowa Conference men’s indoor track and field athletes of the week.
Wood, recognized in track events, took first in the 200-meter run at the Wartburg Select Meet Friday, finishing in a personal-best time of 22.49 seconds. He also led off the winning 4x200 relay (1:30.03) and was part of the fourth-place 4x400 relay (3:23.9).
This is the second time Wood has been cited as the indoor track events athlete of the week. He was also recognized Feb. 21, 2010. Wood has received the outdoor honor nine times.
Larson is tabbed as the field events athlete of the week. He captured the heptathlon with 4,381 points. The score ranks 10th in Division III and is the top mark in the league.
The Dutch compete in the Darren Young Classic Saturday at Grinnell.
