The Lynnville-Sully boys basketball team was on the road at Iowa Valley Monday night, where apparently it was on fire as soon as it got off the bus.

The Hawks routed the Tigers in the first half, leading 24-10 after one quarter and 51-22 at halftime on their way to a 70-54 win in South Iowa Cedar League action. The win improved them to 17-3 overall and 17-2 in the SICL with one game left in the regular season.

Four players scored in double figures for Lynnville-Sully, led by sophomore Darin Hofer’s 16 points. Junior Brady Van Wyk had 15, while junior Nathan Russell and sophomore TJ Cunningham added 13 and 11. Junior Cale Van Wyk and sophomore Bailee Samson each chipped in six, while Samson recorded eight steals on the night.

“We played an excellent first half,” Hawks coach Nick Harthoorn said. “I thought we moved the ball well, which resulted in some great shots. It’s nice to see four guys in double figures. It was fun to watch the guys play unselfish basketball.”

Lynnville-Sully shot 52 percent for the game and created 25 turnovers while committing only 10.

The Hawks wrap up their regular season by hosting Tri-County (2-17, 2-16) on Friday.
