Daily News wins awards 
at INA banquet Friday night

The Newton Daily News won a number of awards during the 2012 Iowa Newspaper Association banquet Friday evening. Entries were judged by members of the Nebraska Newspaper Association.

Individually, Daily News reporter Amy Gronauer received first place in the Genevieve Mauck Stoufer Outstanding Young Iowa Journalists contest. The judges commented that they liked the fact that Gronauer wrote and designed special sections. The Young Iowa Journalist award is presented jointly by the Iowa Newspaper Foundation and the journalism schools at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and Drake University.

A third place award was given to former Daily News sports writer Ben Frotscher for his story of a wrestler struggling with and overcoming drugs.

The Daily News received first place awards for Coverage of Business, Best Front Page, Best Newspaper Website and Best Slide Show. Best Feature Page and Coverage of Education received second place awards and Coverage of Government and Politics received a third place award.
