Marilyn L. (Meier) Longren, 71, of Newton, died on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 3, at the First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton. Burial will follow at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.  

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church, Skiff Hospice, or to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League & Humane Society may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service. Memorials also may be mailed to the funeral home. Please add, Attn: Longren Family to the envelope.

Survivors include her husband, Larry of Newton; children, Shelly (John) Barker of Newton, Missy (Curt) Hodges of Newton, and Tony (Glenda) Longren of Pleasant Hill; her seven grandchildren, Melanie (Dave) Humphrey of Newton, Brandon Barker in the U.S. Navy, Blaine Barker, Chelsie (Alex) Modlin, and Mackenzie Hodges, all of Newton, MaKayla Longren, and Connor Longren, both of Pleasant Hill; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Rylan and Gabbie; and her sister, Juanita Butler of Owatonna, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon Meier and Amber I. (Patterson) Meier Averhoff; step-father, John Averhoff; brother, Walt Meier; and sister, Dorothy Wallin.
