DES MOINES (AP) — Iowa legislators say they are satisfied with how the Iowa Lottery handled a mysterious, now-withdrawn claim for a $14.3 million jackpot.
Lottery officials took questions from lawmakers about the matter, which began when Bedford, N.Y., lawyer Crawford Shaw sent in the winning ticket. After lottery officials questioned him about it, Shaw on Thursday withdrew his claim for the jackpot and said he didn’t know the ticket owner he represented through a trust.
“This was handled in the proper way and had the best outcome for the state of Iowa, protected the citizens of the state of Iowa. No doubt,” Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich told lawmakers.
