RSVP offering free income tax assistance beginning Wednesday
Free help filing federal and state income tax returns begins Wednesday at RSVP.
The free assistance will be available from IRS certified volunteer counselors Wednesdays through April 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. Appointments can be taken for Tuesdays and Thursdays by calling the (641) 792-6433 number at Iowa State University Extension. The RSVP office is located at 550 N. Second Ave. W. inside the DMACC Newton Campus building on the east end in rooms 214 and 215. Doors will open no earlier than 8:30 a.m.
All assistance is provided free by volunteer counselors who have completed IRS approved training and certification. Farm, corporate or trust returns are not supported by this service. Low- and middle-income citizens of Jasper County, with special attention given to those age 55 and older, are eligible for free tax help. Current counselors include John Carl, Lonnie Barton, Bill Harrison, Dennis Julius, Audra Porter, Terry Townsend and Lee Zmolek.
Bring a copy of your 2010 returns, all pertinent 2011 information (W-2s, Social Security income, child tax credit payments, disability income, the amount of last year’s state and federal tax returns, etc.), and confirmation of your Social Security number. E-filing is also available.
