• Seven Jasper County teenagers were charged with possession of alcohol underage at 1:32 a.m. Jan. 15 after Newton police were called to a suspected house party at 507 E. 25th St. S. According to a police report, 19-year-olds Emily N. Clements, Samuel A. Day, Grant J. McDermott, Brandon M. Lauber and Jamison E. Poe, all of Newton, Morgan M. Reynolds of Altoona and 18-year-old Austin B. Cowman of Monroe all were confirmed to be drinking and cited for the offense. All parties were released to appear in court. Two of the teens, Poe and Lauber, also were involved in an underage drinking incident Jan. 14. A NPD spokesperson said the subjects were found to be intoxicated while at McDonald’s on First Avenue East. Four teens were charged with public intoxication at 2:09 a.m., including 18-year-old Brandon M. Modlin of Newton, 18-year-old Alyssa E. Martin of Grinnell, Poe and Lauber. A fifth individual, 21-year-old Cameron N. Wickliff of Newton, was charged with supplying alcohol to the minors. All were arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Lawrence M. Haws, 43, was arrested and charged with fifth-degree theft and forgery at 3:20 p.m. Thursday after a female victim reported her purse stolen from the Newton library and later noticed several unauthorized charges on her credit card. According to a police report, Haws, who is listed as homeless, allegedly forged the victim’s name during three separate purchases at Walmart. Police said that Haws made transactions equaling $54.64, $171.75 and $404.46. Authorities estimated the contents of the purse to be valued at $90. Haws left the scene at Walmart but was apprehended just east of the retailer. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Danny Petro, 30, of Newton was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary Saturday after he allegedly broke into a home at 606 S. Second Ave. W at 11:39 p.m. Friday striking the occupant. According to the police report, officers found damage done to the home’s door consistent with a break-in. After an investigation, Petro was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Robert J. Collins, 49, of Cedar Rapids was arrested on a warrant at 6:55 p.m. Saturday for possession of amphetamine. According to a police report, Collins was wanted in Iowa County for having the controlled substance, and his vehicle was stopped in the 100 block of West Third Street South in Newton when his Iowa Department of Transportation record showed the outstanding warrant. Police said that a small baggie of marijuana was found during the traffic stop. Collins was taken into custody and transported to the Jasper County Jail
