Cartoonist mocked faith of Tebow

To the Editor,

I was born and raised in Newton. I’ve worked here, raised kids here and now have several grandchildren here.

I’ve relied on the Newton Daily News for years for local and area news. When I was younger, you could rely on family stories, cartoons and upcoming events. It was family friendly. I realize times have changed, but my faith in a friendly hometown paper has really changed.

Did anyone else see the large cartoon in Friday’s paper? It showed Satan 666 vs. t-BONED 3:16. I can’t remember the last time I was so shocked and disappointed. Someone (and there’s more than one) has taken a well-known Christian sports legend and made a mockery of his relationship with God. They made Satan look like the hero in that cartoon.

I don’t know what anyone else thinks, but I think we all need heroes like this athlete — especially the kids of today. But promoting Satan as the winner? That’s low.
