• Two Newton residents were charged with fifth-degree theft Thursday after police said that evidence from an investigation into a Wednesday night theft at Hy-Vee indicated the subjects allegedly stole a candy floral arrangement. According to a police report, Nathan J. Etter and Angel F. Reeves, both 20, left the store at 9:40 p.m. with the $23.54 arrangement hidden under a coat. Hy-Vee employees reported the incident to authorities and were able to provide officers with enough information to identify the 20-year-olds. Etter and Reeves were called to the NPD offices to receive their charges and were released to appear in court.

• Kimberly S. Kizer, 44, of Newton was arrested on a warrant at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday for a parole violation. According to a police report, Kizer was arrested at her residence at 501 N. Second Ave. W. Apt. 3. Her original charge was unauthorized use of a credit card. Kizer was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• A two-vehicle accident occurred at 4:06 p.m. Jan. 10, at the intersection of North Second Avenue East and East Second Street North. According to a police report, Kyle D. Rojohn, 18, of Newton was cited for speeding after he collided with the vehicle of 38-year-old Catherine A. Hennessey of Monroe. Police said Hennessey was sitting at the southbound stop sign on East Second Street North when Rojohn hit her while traveling eastbound. Estimated damage to Hennessey’s vehicle is approximately $2,000, and police said $3,000 in damage was done to Rojohn’s vehicle. Rojohn complained of injuries after the accident, but transported himself to Skiff Medical Center. No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
