A high speed chase nearing 100 mph forced police officers to pursue a 33-year-old Newton resident for 10.7 miles Saturday night, finally ending near Monroe.

Jarod L. Hribar has been arrested and charged with eluding police (an aggravated misdemeanor) for the 8:12 p.m. incident. According to a spokesperson from the Newton Police Department, authorities attempted to stop Hribar’s vehicle in the 500 block of Highway 14 South where his speed was clocked at 97 mph in a 45 mph zone. Police said Hribar ran a stoplight at the intersection of Highway 14 and South 12th Avenue West before he pulled over on Runner Avenue, a small connecting road in rural Monroe.

Hribar also was cited for speeding and running a stoplight before he was transported to the Jasper County Jail. He was released on a $2,600 bond later Saturday evening.

A scheduled date for Hribar’s initial appearance in Jasper County District Court was not available this morning by press time.
