2011 Iowa Corn Indy 250 draws 35,000

An announced crowd of 35,118 fans turned out Saturday for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway to watch Marco Andretti end a five-year winless drought and take the checkered flag. Cool, rainy weather hit the area earlier in the day and may have played a role in lower attendance for the race — which drew more than 40,000 in 2009. Gov. Terry Branstad (right) appeared for the race in Newton, too. Check out full race coverage on page 1B and a photo montage on page 8B.
