Jean Robinson, 93, of Newton, Iowa, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Private graveside services for Jean will be Sunday, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m. at Newton Union Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Memorials in Jean’s name are being designated for Congregational United Church of Christ or Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing.

Jean Robinson, the daughter of Paul Albert Handke and Myra Eberhardt Handke, was born Nov. 29, 1917, in Galesburg, Ill. Jean attended Newton Senior High School and was graduated with the Class of 1934. She then attended Knox College in Illinois.

On March 9, 1941, in Newton, Jean was united in marriage to Norland W. Robinson. Jean was a devoted mother and homemaker working outside the home only a few years at the Maytag Company as a secretary for Tom Smith. Jean was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Chapter HS of PEO for over 50 years and a member of the Book Club.  She loved her family, enjoyed reading and playing bridge. She and Norland vacationed for many years in their home in Minnesota.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norland on March 26, 2002; sister, Margaret Ariano; and brother, David P. Handke.

Those left to honor Jean’s memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Larry Langeloh of Innisbrook, Fla., Jane and Gary “Mort” Johnson of Prairie City, Iowa, and Nancy and Steve Jones of Castle Rock, Colo.; grandchildren Chris Jones and wife Jenny of Colorado, Brad Johnson of Iowa and Debbie Carter and husband Kash of Nebraska; great-grandson Ben Jones and great-granddaughter Brooke Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
