Three Newton Senior High School students were selected to All-State, the highest honor a high school music student can receive in the state of Iowa.

Pictured (from left) are Dani Peters, junior, daughter of Bill and Kristi Peters; Anna Wells, senior, daughter of Alan and Cindy Wells; and Alice Hinshaw, senior, daughter of Terry and Pam Hinshaw. Hinshaw is in the All-State band for the second time, and Peters and Wells are in the chorus for the first time. The students begin preparing for auditions in August by attending camps and rehearsing before and after school. Approximately 18 percent of those who audition are chosen. There were 275 students selected for the band from more than 1,300 who auditioned, and 600 students were selected for the choir from more than 3,000 who auditioned.
