Jasper County’s Assistant Financial Officer Carol Kielly has announced she plans to retire next April. With Kielly’s imminent departure, the auditor’s office wants to ensure that the important position remains filled with a knowledgeable employee. For that reason, the auditor’s office requested the Board of Supervisors create the position of a third deputy auditor.

The supervisors agreed, and approved the auditor’s selection of Teresa Arrowood to fill the position. Arrowood has been serving as real estate clerk in the auditor’s office. She will begin her new duties Sept. 13 and will be learning Kielly’s job duties until Kielly retires in April. Arrowood’s salary will start at $39,428, 66 percent of the auditor’s wages, until Kielly’s retirement, when she will earn 80 percent of the auditor’s wages.

Deputy Auditor Marlena Ray said she felt the selection of Arrowood was a good one.

“Carol started in the assessor’s office and that was a good background,” Ray said. “Now Teresa’s working in real estate will give her good working knowledge of the county. I will be glad to be working along with her.”

Kielly started working for the city assessor’s office while she was still in high school, then went to work for Jasper County in 1975.

In other action Tuesday, the supervisors:
