Kellogg man wins free UIU class

FAYETTE — During the 2010 Iowa State Fair, Upper Iowa University awarded three one-year tuition scholarships to its Fayette campus and 11 free courses that can be taken at a UIU education center, online or as independent study.

The awards went to students who entered their names into drawings at the UIU booth at the Iowa State Fair.

“We look forward to the state fair every year and the opportunity to meet with future students, parents and UIU alums,” UIU President Alan G. Walker said. “We change people’s lives when we award these scholarships and free courses. When these students become part of Upper Iowa University, they have the opportunity to get a college education that will prepare them for something greater in their lives. We’re proud to be able to give them that start in life.”

A winner of a free UIU courses was drawn each day of the Fair. Among the 11 winners was Sheldon Johnson of Kellogg.

More than 35,000 people visited the Upper Iowa University booth during the State Fair, including 468 UIU alumni.
