To the Editor,

As grateful members of the Newton Dog Park Committee, we just want to say thanks to all those who supported the “The Fast and the Furriest” dog race/walk this past weekend to raise funds for the construction of the dog park.

The supporting sponsors were First Newton National Bank, Taco John’s, Bank Iowa, Newton Animal Clinic, The Critter Sitter, and a special thanks goes to Parkview Animal Hospital who was on hand providing doggie checkups and vendor giveaways in addition to their being a supporting sponsor.

Other supporters were Okoboji Grill, Tractor Supply Co., Green Acres Boarding, Timeless Escape Massage Therapy, Posh Salon & Spa, Garden Gate Landscaping, Theisen’s & Kota (our canine supporter) provided generous prizes for the top three race winners, loudest barker, best costumed, most-looks-like-owner and longest ears. Of course, we couldn’t have done without Dan Kelley’s DJ Services with “Who Let the Dogs Out?”

Dog Treats were made and donated by Progress Industries and healthy human refreshments came from Fareway and Hy-Vee. Also, yummy goodies were baked by generous friends. In addition, we thank the ACTION Club for their monetary support. (We did have a lot of support, didn’t we?)

The Newton Department of Parks and Recreation gave us the use of the Agnes Patterson Park and arboretum for the race and post-race activities. We are truly appreciative of all they have done in building the dog park and helping with our fundraising administration. Without the support of Denny Slings, we might still be in the hoping stage of a dog park; we’ll surely miss him when he retires.

These contributions made for a spectacular event for dogs and people. Weather was perfect and all dogs (and owners) made it to the finish line in fine fiddle.

Don’t forget the Newton Dog Park is open and everyone is invited to come play. It is located at the entrance of Westwood Golf Club.

We thank you.
