Top management thinker to speak at conference
Tom Peters, management guru and author of numerous bestselling books, will be the keynote speaker at Iowa’s 2010 Advanced Manufacturing Conference on Oct. 7 at the FFA Enrichment Center on the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Campus.
Peters, author of “In Search of Excellence” and “Re-imagine!: Business Excellence in a Disruptive Age,” will speak from 10:30 a.m. to noon on “Competing in a Global Marketplace.” His book, “In Search of Excellence,” co-authored by Bob Waterman, was honored by National Public Radio (NPR) as one of the “Top Three Business Books of the Century.” It was ranked as the “greatest business book of all time” in a poll by Britain’s Bloomsbury Publishing and was the most widely-held library book in the United States from 1989 to 2006.
Peters has written more than a dozen additional international bestsellers, including “A Passion for Excellence” (with Nancy Austin), “Thriving on Chaos,” “Liberation Management” and, his latest book, “The Little BIG Things: 163 Ways to Peters,” which is included in Thinkers 50 list of The Most Influential Management Gurus.
The day-long advanced manufacturing conference also features two other prominent speakers:
• William Testa, vice president and director of regional programs for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, speaking on “Manufacturing in the Midwest.”
• Keith McFarland, author of “The Breakthrough Company” and “Bounce: The Art of Turning Tough Times Into Triumph.”
The conference also featured an interactive panel of manufacturers and other experts who will discuss the most important issues that face Iowa manufacturers.
