A bizarre accident Monday afternoon injured one man and brought police and rescue units from four different municipalities.

James Bonnett, 25, was southbound on Highway F74 north of Reasnor when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve, entered the ditch and apparently went airborne, striking a tree and ending up near the driveway of the Terry Van Rees residence.

Van Rees said he didn’t know how long Bonnett was there before he was discovered climbing out of his vehicle with a child in his arms. The infant was not injured.

The accident was investigated by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe and Prairie City Police Departments, and Bonnett was transported to Skiff Medical Center by Reasnor Ambulance for possible head injuries.

Jasper County Sheriff Mike Balmer said the investigation is continuing and charges may be filed.
