Club Notes
Chapter K-EN of T.T.T.
Thirteen members and one guest of Chapter K-EN T.T.T. attended the March 6 meeting at the home of Jane Johnson. Clarice Sigurdson served as co-hostess.
President Shirley Birkenholz called the meeting to order. No roll call was taken. The minutes of the January meeting were read and approved. There were no minutes for February, as that meeting was canceled due to bad weather. Treasurer Kay Parsons gave the monthly financial report.
Correspondence — The chapter received a thank you from Park Centre Good Samaritan fund for the donation on behalf of Mr. Van Zee.
Ruth Cleverly received a questionnaire from Connie Boyce of the Iowa State Board regarding a chapter visit follow up. The questionnaire also included questions regarding the ages of members and our fundraising projects. It was mentioned this might be an opportunity to voice our concerns about the differences between the two different camps and state our preference.
Camp Committee Report — Jane Johnson announced she has had some problems getting names of girls but does now have a possible six names.
Fundraising Project — Kay Parsons reminded members that help will be needed to sell beverages at the Jasper County Concert on April 9.
Old Business — President Shirley reported on the contacts she made on behalf of the girl from Colfax wanting to attend a camp. The YMCA would have scholarships available.
Members were also reminded of the T.T.T. state convention on April 23 and 24 in Ottumwa. Previously the chapter sent two members to the convention. If members are interested in attending, notify President Shirley by March 23.
Chapter K-EN will receive a visit from the state office as this is the third year of the merger.
The April 13 meeting will be at the home of Barbara Taylor.
Kellogg Garden Club
The Kellogg Garden Club met for its February meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the cabin in Homdahl Park with 11 members present. Kristy Schaket from the Garden Gate Landscaping Services gave the group insight into the plans she had drawn up for the area around the fire station and city hall. After much discussion, the plans were taken under advisement. The next big item up for discussion is the group’s upcoming fundraiser, the High Tea Party.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 23 at the cabin in Homdahl Park. Katie Cantu from the Jasper County Conservation Department will explain a new program they are doing with establishing a butterfly garden at Mariposa Park. Help is needed in three areas: providing plants, labor and/or money. All are invited.
Golden Agers Club
The Golden Agers Club met at the Salvation Army Citadel on Feb. 16. Eva L. Miller provided entertainment with guitar and singing.
Following the program, the group joined in the Pledge of Allegiance, and the secretary and treasurer’s reports were given. Queen Margaret Bailey read the poem “The Golden Key” and an assortment of jokes. The group celebrated three birthdays, for Mabel Hobbs, Arlene Crocker and Bonnie Swalwell Eilert.
In November 2009, many members attended the kick-off meeting for the Red Kettle Campaign, and in December 2009, Captains Ron and Carol Cook gave the Golden Agers Club a dinner and gifts. In January, an appreciation dinner was provided for members who had assisted with the Red Kettle Campaign by ringing bells.
Moose Lodge ladies Liz Pelaar, Ilene Lee and Ellen Howell served sandwiches, chips, Valentine’s cookies, candy, red punch and coffee. In March, the VFW will be serving. Dorothy Pickett won the door prize, and Bailey concluded the meeting with a prayer.
