Gertrude Hoffmeier, 89, of Lowden, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with the Rev. Victor Young officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Burial will be at Trinity Church Cemetery.

Memorials are being accepted to the Alzheimer’s Organization.

The daughter of Emil Stolte and Emma Meier, Gertrude was born Aug. 21 in Lowden. She was united in marriage to Herold Hoffmeier on April 19,1942, in Lowden. Herold died Sept.15, 2007.

Gertrude worked as an aid at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in various church organizations. She was a member of the Lowden Amvets, and she loved quilting, baking and sewing. She also loved music.

Survivors include her daughter, Julayne Hoffmeier and partner Carolynn Munson of Sacramento, Calif.; three sons, Bruce (Karen) of Newton, Brian (Patti) of Arvada, Colo., and Barry (Julie) of Lowden; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Scheeper of Lowden and Luverne (Bob) Fiala of Goleta, Calif.; and her brother Larry (Virjean) Stolte of Lowden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and two sisters.
