The Newton Fire Department will receive $54,390 in grant money through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Day in and day out, firefighters put their lives on the line for the good of the community,” Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said. “It’s important that firefighters have the necessary equipment and training to help keep the community safe.”

In total, FEMA awarded more than $1.5 million in grant money to fire departments throughout the state of Iowa through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants’ Operations and Safety and Vehicle Acquisition Programs.
