Barrett Homemakers

The January meeting of the Barrett Homemakers was held at Park Centre with Barbara Ashby as Hostess.

Dorothy Wood opened the meeting by reading “I’m Going to be a Bear”, “Mother’s Old Checkered Apron” and “Blessed Iowa.” President Pat Bates called the meeting to order and nine members answered roll call by telling about their favorite home cooked meal.

The minutes were read and approved and the treasurers report was given. Pennies for Barrett were collected. A card was signed for Barbara Tininenko who recently had surgery.

The group played Apples to Apples with Barbara Ashby winning the game.

The February meeting will be held at the Pizza Ranch in Newton on Feb. 10. Husbands are invited to attend and each person should bring a Valentine exchange gift.

K-EN T.T.T.

Eleven members of Chapter K-EN T.T.T. attended Tuesday’s meeting at the home of Gladys Otto. Jane Repp served as co-hostess. President Shirley Birkenholz called the meeting to order. No roll call was taken.

The minutes of the December 2009 meeting were read and approved. Treasure Kay Parsons gave her report which was approved. Parsons also shared a thank you note from O.P.E.N. for the group’s recent monetary donation. Carolyn Hobbs shared a thank you note from the Salvation Army for the chapter’s recent donation of food items.

Birkenholz also had received correspondence from the T.T.T. project administrator regarding a young girl from the Colfax area who wants to go to camp. The girl does not appear to meet the group’s age requirement at this time. Suggestions were made that area churches, the YMCA and the Christian Conference Center be contacted also. Birkenholz will make some calls and report back at the February meeting.

Committee reports:

• Camp — Barbara Taylor reported that she took the Christmas gifts to Dona McCoy for distribution to the summer of 2009 camp girls.

• Friendship — Betty Hotchkin reported she had sent a sympathy card for Mr. Van Zee’s funeral and two birthday cards and a get well card for Pat Hybl who was recently hospitalized.

Kay Parsons reminded members that help will be needed to sell beverages at the Jasper County Concert on Feb. 11.

Birkenholz announced the formation of a new Chapter HA in LeMars. Barbara Taylor made a motion, seconded by Rose Evans, that the group send the newly established chapter a monetary gift. The motion passed, and the treasurer was instructed to write a check to Chapter HA. Members also were reminded of the T.T.T. state convention on April 24 and 25 in Ottumwa.

Betty Hotchkin requested that the February meeting not be the salad/recipe exchange as is listed in the yearbook but a regular meeting. The meeting will be at Park Centre at the usual 7 p.m. start time, and Betty and Pat Hybl will be the hostess and co-hostess.

Marshal Berndt provided an interesting program that included a word puzzle regarding various names of states in the United States and a game about where members formerly lived.
