‘Grandpa Hangs the Holly’ begins at NCT

‘Tis the season to be Jolly right? Well, it is to everyone but Granddad Howard in the Newton Community Theatre Christmas performance of “Grandpa Hangs the Holly.”
In this tale of a mildly dysfunctional family we find the Howards. Granddad Howard (John Adams), a wealthy yet stingy old miser, despises the holiday season and goes out of his way to make sure that anyone around him has an equally miserable Christmas experience. Herbert and Mary Howard (Larry Daft and Robin Stoner) are stuck in a tight spot of keeping Granddad happy while making the best of another Christmas.
Herbert and his daughter Susan (Natalie Lourens) are trying to borrow $20,000 from Granddad in order to finance a new business venture between Mr. Howard and Susan’s fiancé, Arthur (Lonnie Appleby). Granddad is not very receptive, and Arthur continues his job as a test pilot. When tragedy appears to strike the family, Granddad remembers how tragedy affected his life many years prior. After some twists and turns, the true meaning of Christmas is realized!
I don’t want to spoil the show so I better let you see it for yourself. Taking place in the late 1960s, the costumes are out of sight. With an ensemble cast of some new and familiar faces this Christmas tale will tickle your funny bone and tantalize your emotions.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for youth. The box office is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m., and one hour before each show.
