Iowa Youth Chorus concerts set for Dec. 5 and 13 in Des Moines
DES MOINES — The award-winning Iowa Youth Chorus announces its holiday concerts for this year.
The Candy Cane Concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the First Christian Church, 2500 University Ave. in Des Moines. The concert will feature all of the Iowa Youth Chorus choirs with singers from ages 6 to 18 singing repertoire appropriate to the holiday season. The choirs include the Primary Choir, Children’s Chorus, Concert Choir, Chorale (top treble choir) and Youth Chorale (top mixed choir) and the Outreach Choirs from Newton and Pella. The Des Moines steel drum band Tropical Steel will also perform. The price of admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
On Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m., the Concert Choir, Chorale and Youth Choral will present the Candlelight Concert at the Temple for Performing Arts, located at 1011 Locust St. in downtown Des Moines. There will be a freewill offering.
The public is invited to help celebrate the IYC’s 28-year tradition of musical excellence and become part of Iowa Youth Chorus. Auditions are offered throughout the year, and the choirs are open to new members from summer through September and December through January.
