Richard L. “Dick” Thompson, 76, died on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.

Memorial services are 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 23, at the First United Methodist Church.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church with a lunch.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to the First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Newton; son, Dennis (Cecille) Thompson of Johnston; daughter, Susan (Bob) Curry of Mitchellville; his three grandchildren, Jennifer (Patrick) Meyer, Megan, and Nathan Curry; great-grandson, Caleb Meyer; and his two sisters, Jean (Dwight) Kennedy, and JoEllen (Harold) Adams, both of Prairie City.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Roy A. and Grace (Clippinger) Thompson; great-grandson, Gabriel Meyer; brother, Robert Thompson; and sister, Jane Lenning.

Arrangements are being handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.
