Old-Fashioned ‘Barn’ Dance set for Thursday at Skate Castle in Newton

An Old-Fashioned “Barn” Dance is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Skate Castle in Newton.

Dances will include old-time squares, circles, contras, waltzes and polkas. There will be live music with Newton’s own Side Porch Pickers and a live caller, Jim Christensen & Company. Admission is $5, with a family maximum of $20, and babies and toddlers are admitted at no charge.

All dances will be taught, no knowledge or experience is necessary, and there is no need to bring a partner. Acoustic musicians are welcome to join the band off-mic. The concession stand will be open (no food or drink may be brought in). Only clean-soled, non-scuffing shoes are allowed on the floor. No tobacco or alcohol is permitted.
