Stephens Auditorium presents ‘Wizard of Oz’

Called a “lavish stage production” by the New York Times, “The Wizard of Oz” will be on stage at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Stephens Auditorium in Ames.
Journey over the rainbow with the beloved characters from Oz in this musical celebration recalling the iconic 1939 MGM film, in which Dorothy, Toto and their friends travel down the Yellow Brick Road to the magical land of Oz. “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” and “If I Only Had a Brain” are among the many classic songs featured in “The Wizard of Oz.” Audience members know will they’re not in Kansas any more the moment the tornado touches down and transports them “Over the Rainbow.”
The event is sponsored by Best Western University Park Inn and Suites. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to meet “Wizard of Oz” cast members during a Celebrity Café presentation on the ground floor lobby, accessible on the north side of Stephens Auditorium. The presentation is free for event ticket holders.
Tickets are $47 or $43 for adults, $25 for youth and $20 for Iowa State University students and are available at the Iowa State Center Ticket Office, located at the north entrance of Stephens Auditorium at the corner of Lincoln Way and Beach Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; all Ticketmaster centers (convenience surcharges apply); charge by phone at (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
