• Matthew J. Bogue, 48, of Newton was arrested Sunday and charged with public intoxication after authorities received a complaint at 12:54 a.m. of a possibly intoxicated person at Skiff Medical Center. Bogue was charged and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
• Tanner B. Jensen, 18, of Newton was charged Saturday with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 10:30 p.m. at Hy-Vee. The suspect, identified as Jensen, had left the store before police arrived but was located at 204 S. 11th Ave. W. He was charged for allegedly stealing two bottles of liquor with a total value of $77.96 and was released on his own recognizance.
• Martin R. Melcoche, 34, of Newton was charged today at 1:45 a.m. with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him in the 300 block of First Avenue East and determined his license had been suspended. He was released on his own recognizance.
• Wendy J. VanDerpol, 32, of Newton was arrested Friday and charged with driving while license barred following an investigation of an incident that occurred at approximately 2 p.m. Oct. 28. VanDerpol was charged for allegedly driving with a barred license after she reported that a vehicle had been following her on Oct. 29. A video taken by VanDerpol and a passenger in her vehicle showed an individual following her but also showed VanDerpol driving while she had a barred license. A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
A criminal charge is an merely accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
