Cyclone men open season with pair of home victories
AMES — Iowa State started its men’s basketball season off on the right note with wins over Idaho State and Chicago State this past weekend.
The Cyclones had four players in double-figures as the Cyclones came away with an 88-68 victory over Idaho State Friday night.
Craig Brackins led Iowa State with 17 points, LaRon Dendy added 16 points and seven rebounds, Marquis Gilstrap collected 13 points and Scot Christopherson collected 10 points in the winning effort.
Diante Garrett dished out seven assists in the victory for Iowa State.
The Cyclones led 44-24 at halftime.
Broderick Gilchrest led Idaho State with 21 points.
On Sunday night against Chicago State, Gilstrap collected a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds to gain a 72-50 victory.
Christopherson led the Cyclones offensively with 12 points, while Jamie Vanderbeken added 11 points.
Brackins struggled from the field, shooting just 2-of-12 to end with seven points.
The Cyclones (2-0) are back in action Tuesday at Drake, with the next home game being Sunday against Mississippi Valley State.
