Leaf burning in town prohibited

The Newton Fire Department is reminding local residents that leaf burning is not allowed in the city limits of Newton.

Leaves may be taken to the landfill at no charge during regular business hours Monday through Friday. Leaves may also be placed in the City Of Newton yard waste bags, which may be purchased at Hy-Vee, Fareway, Wal-Mart and True Value. If a person is caught burning leaves, they will be asked to extinguish them and a fine may be issued. Contact the Newton Fire Department at 792-3347 with any questions.
