Newton Police Department
• Joseph M. Burchett, 19, of Newton was charged with driving while license revoked after authorities initiated a traffic stop on his vehicle at 9:38 p.m. Oct. 27 in the 1200 block of First Avenue East and determined his license had been suspended. Burchett was released on his own recognizance.
• Catherine J. Hogan, 44, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her at 11:20 p.m. Oct. 24 in the 500 block of East 12th Street North for an equipment violation and determined her license had been suspended. Hogan also was cited with unlawful use of license and issued a warning for having an inoperable license plate light. She was released on her own recognizance.
• Robert E. Pilcher, 63, of Newton was charged with public intoxication in connection with an incident that occurred at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Pilcher was charged for allegedly being intoxicated when he entered the Newton Police Department at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 23 and claimed to have a gun with him. After he was transported for medical evaluation, he was charged Oct. 26 and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
