Cyclones can’t overcome early hole, fall to Aggies
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Iowa State Cyclones are one win away from becoming bowl eligible.
That win will have to wait as Texas A&M jumped out to a 21-0 lead on Iowa State at home on Saturday and then finished off the Cyclones, 35-10.
It was a bit of a letdown for Iowa State, which was coming off a very emotional win against Nebraska last week.
Jerrod Johnson threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another as the Aggies scored 14 points in the first quarter and then collected 14 more in the fourth to win going away.
Each team turned the ball over twice, but Texas A&M rolled up 501 yards of offense and was 10-of-13 on third-down conversions. Johnston was 23-for-28 for 234 yards through the air on the day. His counterpart, freshman Jerome Tiller, was 18-for-27 with 155 yards and two interceptions.
Tiller was playing for starting quarterback Austen Arnaud, who missed his second straight game with a hand injury. Alexander Robinson returned to the lineup for the Cyclones and gained 76 yards on 20 carries.
The Cyclones are now 5-4 and will try to become bowl eligible Saturday when they face No. 18 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are 6-2 but are coming off a 41-14 blowout loss to No. 2 Texas.
