Pauline Ray of Newton looks over the apples of Carey Smith of Prairie City, who had a selection from Rasa Orchards of Waverly, Mo. Smith had his stand set up in the parking lot on First Avenue East at 12th Street on Wednesday. He said he would be back on the weekend with more apples, as well as potatoes, onions and other cold-weather vegetables.
