CMB loses fourth straight against Gilbert
BAXTER — Collins-Maxwell-Baxter senior Abby Maher had 12 kills, 11 digs and four aces Monday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Raiders to a win as CMB lost its fourth straight match.
The team fell to Gilbert in four games in Baxter.
For CMB, junior Jessica Robinett had a team-high 17 assists and also had six digs and two aces. Junior Amber Joyce finished with three kills, five digs and two aces, while Sam Curler had four kills and four solo blocks and sophomore Emmeline Huffaker contributed eight digs.
The Raiders were 62-of-74 in serves and had 10 aces on the night.
CMB also played Nevada last Thursday but also lost that match in four games.
The Raiders were led by Maher, who finished 13 kills, 14 digs and six aces. Robinett added a team-high 16 assists and also had 15 digs, while Huffaker had a team-high 18 digs. Joyce had four kills, four digs and two aces, while junior Zeah Peterson added three kills, two digs and two aces.
CMB (3-7) was 55-for-61 on serves with 11 aces in the match.
The Raiders will try to end their four-game losing streak tonight when they take on area rival Colfax-Mingo in Maxwell. Before losing to Gilbert and Nevada, CMB lost to South Hamilton in three games.
Tigerhawks swept by North Polk
COLFAX — Colfax-Mingo was close in every game Monday night but North Polk earned a 27-25, 25-18, 25-23 sweep of the Tigerhawks in Heart of Iowa Small School play.
“As you can see, we were in every game,” Colfax-Mingo coach Brian Warrick said. “We led at some point in each game. We continue to improve each week and play as a team.”
Outside hitter Breanna Trainor led Colfax-Mingo with six kills and was 10-of-13 serving, while middle hitter Nicollette Husson added four kills. Defensive specialist Logan Wilson was 10-of-12 serving with an ace and six digs, while setter Brooke Berkey was 11-of-13 serving and had five assists.
Defensive specialist Meranda McKinney also was 9-of-11 serving with seven digs.
Colfax-Mingo (2-7) is in action tonight against CMB in Maxwell.
