Ibbotson graduates from Institute for Production and Recording

Matthew Ibbotson, a 2006 graduate from Newton Senior High School, was graduated in March of this year from The Institute for Production and Recording in Minneapolis, Minn.

The son of Bob and Jean Ibbotson, he is presently continuing his education at Central College in Pella.

The Nemo Orchestra was awarded first place in the Rock the Bricks Down Battle of the Bands contest Saturday (Sept. 5) at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. Area band members are Matt Ibbotson, acoustic guitar and vocals; Adam Pettyjohn, electric guitar and vocals; and Nick Knudson, electric guitar and vocals, all of Newton. Also, Lee Eckles, bass guitar; and Josiah VerWoert, drums; both of Sully, and Mike Street, auxiliary percussion, of Galesburg.

Placing second in the contest between the six bands competing was the Hanwell Band whose members are from Newton and Des Moines.

The Nemo Orchestra will play at the VFW in Newton tonight.
