Model A Fords to invade Newton

0

The old Model A will be on parade Saturday in Newton as more than 30 of the classic Fords roll into town for an overnight stay.

The cars will be driven into Newton as part of the Great Annual Model A Ride Around Iowa, an annual event that began in 1996. The tour was started by Joe Lamb, a member of the Central Iowa Model A Club, who wanted to give Model A enthusiasts a chance to do a home state tour.

Ford Model A’s were manufactured from 1928 through 1931. The “museum on wheels” will consist of many different body styles and colors. Cruising the Iowa highways at a top speed of approximately 50 m.p.h., gives the participants plenty of opportunities to see and enjoy the state. The challenge of the tour is to get to know Iowa while enjoying the experiences of driving an 80 year old vehicle.

The group will be arriving at the Holiday Inn Express at approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday. They plan to attend the drive-in theater that evening, and visit the Jasper County Museum at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The public is invited to visit with drivers and passengers during the Newton visit.
