A 65-year-old rural Colfax man will be imprisoned for up to 10 years after being found guilty of two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with an accident that killed a Newton woman and a Des Moines man last April.

Earl Regis Glover pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced Monday in Jasper County District Court to 10 years in prison on each count, with the sentences to be served simultaneously, and to pay a total of $2,000 in fines. He also was ordered to pay $150,000 in victim restitution for each count.

Glover was charged last June in connection with the accident following a two-month investigation by authorities. According to police reports, Glover’s van collided with a motorcycle four miles west of Baxter on Highway F17 at approximately 8:30 p.m. April 16. Officials said the two people on the motorcycle — 46-year-old David Alan Johnson and 45-year-old Tammy Jo Lemon — died at the scene.

At the time of the accident, Glover, who had minor injuries and was transported to Skiff Medical Center to be treated, was cited with failure to yield upon entering through highway.

According to police reports, he admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the accident, and urine test results later showed his blood alcohol content level was .101 around the time of the accident.
