• Jordan L. Foreman, 22, of Newton was charged June 23 with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a complaint received at 11:42 a.m. of a theft of $201 in cigarettes at Hy-Vee by a former store employee. During the investigation, police viewed surveillance footage showing Foreman entering the store and allegedly stealing several cartons of cigarettes on June 22. Foreman was located, charged and released on his own recognizance.

• Evan E. Garr, 18, of Newton was charged Friday with public intoxication after authorities responded to a complaint received at 3:42 a.m. of a possibly intoxicated person at Love’s Truck Stop. Garr was charged for allegedly being intoxicated in public and released on his own recognizance.

• Jay A. Koenen, 38, of Newton was cited June 11 with failure to obey a stop sign after traveling west in the 1600 block of North Fourth Avenue East at 12:03 p.m., stopping at a stop sign and entering the intersection at East 17th Street North, causing Quinn R. Roney, 42, of Newton to lose control of his motorcycle, which went down on the pavement, in order to avoid a collision. Both Roney and another rider on his motorcycle refused treatment by an ambulance.

• Megan N. Paulson, 22, of Newton was charged Saturday with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her vehicle at 11:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of South 13th Avenue East and determined her license had been suspended. She also was cited with operation without registration and failure to have insurance, and she was released on her own recognizance.

• Geraldine Phillips, 77, of Newton was cited Friday with failure to obey stop sign after traveling east on North Second Avenue East at 3:57 p.m., entering the intersection at East Fourth Street North and colliding with a southbound vehicle driven by Aaron M. Rowe, 21, of Newton, who did not have a stop sign and had the right of way. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $1,000 to each vehicle.

• Matthew M. Robinson, 16, of Newton was cited Monday with failure to obey stop sign after traveling east on South Eighth Avenue East at 1:04 p.m., entering an intersection at East 12th Street South and colliding with a southbound vehicle driven by Jolene K. Gorzney-Comer, 33, of Newton. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $1,200 to Gorzney-Comer’s vehicle and $200 to Robinson’s vehicle.
