MARENGO — Lynnville-Sully’s baseball team ended a four-game losing streak Monday night with a 10-1 victory over Iowa Valley.

“We played a solid ballgame all night long,” L-S coach Nick Harder said. “We kept the pressure on from the first inning with baserunners aggressive on the bases and solid plate appearances from almost everyone in the lineup. It was a very good comeback after a couple of hard losses last week.”

With the game tied 1-1 after the first inning, Lynnville-Sully added two runs in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Josh Van Wyk took the win on the mound after allowing four hits, four strikeouts and walking one in five innings. Dan Zegers allowed one hit in one inning of work, while Zach Stafford allowed one hit, one walk and struck out three in one inning as well.

Dallas Bryan led the Hawks offensively by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and three RBIs. Van Wyk was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Nick Beyer went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Kenton Dunsbergen went 2-for-5 with one run, a double and two RBIs. Both Jesse Holder and Stafford were 2-for-4, with Holder collecting an RBI and Stafford having a stolen base.

C-M softball shuts out South Hamilton

JEWELL — A five-run top of the seventh inning helped Colfax-Mingo put away South Hamilton’s softball team by a 6-0 score Monday night.

Devanie Fahrney picked up the win in the circle after allowing five hits and striking out four.

“We played good defense, and Devanie threw a very good game,” Colfax-Mingo coach Bryan Poulter said. “Our offense was slow to start, but it did produce — that is a good sign.”

Breanna Trainor was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Brittney Borts was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brooke Berkey went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Cassie Schmidt was 2-for-3.
