Special to Daily News Watermelon Slim (above) had the audience on its feet last Saturday at the 16th Bowlful of Blues in Maytag Park. It was a cool, breezy day in sharp contrast to past years. A crowd of almost 400 music lovers also enjoyed the sounds of Sumpin’ Doo featuring Iowa Blues Hall of Fame members George and Gilbert Davis, Newton native Jeff Banks and the Pain Killers, Thunderbird Kingsley, Hot Tamale and the Red Hots and Rob Lumbard. The South Skunk Blues Society, a group of local blues fans, also presents, with the Newton Public Library, the Blues Under the Blue Roof music series. It is held each Monday evening in February and features regional solo and duo blues performers.
